Ready for Friday!

This week has turned into a 3-day work week with the two personal days I had to take (see previous post). The only silver lining of the past 5 days is that it's almost Friday. Yay.
This Friday should be interesting, as I am supposed to meet up with Brad who is in town for his friend's Bachelor party. I definitely have a question: why did he request both my sister and my boyfriend as friends on facebook? He knows my sister, so it's not that bizarre; but, my boyfriend?! Hmm....I don't know. I am not planning on it, because he'll probably change his mind.
Brent's gonna be in Raleigh on Saturday to watch some high school baseball. It sucks because I won't be seeing him that much in May between his diving trips, recruiting trips, Mother's Day and Memorial Day, and my trip to Greenville at the end of the month. We shall see.......
Hopefully everyone is having a MUCH better week than I have......

Nothing good

I don't have anything good to report. I'm pretty much wallowing in sorrow, living a blank existence lately after finding out some news this weekend. It's not my news to share but to say that it has rocked my world is an understatement. I took two personal days this week from work to try and figure out how to handle it. I don't know what to do, how to react, what to say...except that last night, I almost said the worst thing I could've to Brent. I wish I was good at putting on a happy face and going out in the world, but after college, I learned that it's not me and it's not natural to do that. So, here I sit, waiting for some cosmic revelation or heavenly parting of the clouds for some kind of sign as to where I should go from here........As sad as it is, I sense some heavy invibing this weekend.

Grilled Chicken Penne al Fresco

A couple weeks ago, I decided to cook a weekly dinner after seeing this recipe on Tara's blog from The Pampered Chef. Since I love penne pasta and cherry tomatoes, I thought it would be delish. It was. I didn't do follow the recipe to a T mostly because I lacked the deep covered baker and had to resort to my stir-fry pan on the stove. It was pretty good..the basil definitely added a kick! Next time I make it, I will use less broth, less basil and more chicken. Maybe next time, I'll have a baker?!
Thanks for the recipe and the 4-night dinner Tara! YUM, YUM! :)

It's Almost Here!

The weekend that is! I am getting off at 4pm today because I have to go to Time Warner and give 'em their equipment back. I kinda put in a bag on the coat closet floor and forgot about it until I received the bill on Monday. They expect me to pay $422 for a cable box, a remote and a cable modem? I don't think so!
My weekend plans? Tonight after TW, I'm going to the grocery store to restock since today is PAY DAY and my fridge/pantry is stocked like a frat boy's. Ha. Plus, I am going to try to make a recipe I picked up from Tara's blog tonight. We'll see. A band is playing at Wild Wing Cafe, University so I might roll out and head over there.
Tomorrow, I am getting my color done. After my hair appointment, I am going to go for my first visit to IKEA. I have been looking online for awhile and I'm hoping the tables I want will be in the store. We'll see. I don't need too much for the apartment so hopefully I can walk away with only one bag of items, or two boxes. We'll see. I've never been before so I'm really excited.
What else? I'm going to get around to those unopened boxes and disorganized closet on Sunday; I'm going to take B to the Reedy Creek dog park at some point over the weekend; and, I'm giving her a bath! She really needs it! This weekend I will also be repairing my window sill that she decided to chew this morning while I was hitting the snooze button 5 times. That will be interesting since Brent did it last time. Hmm....We'll see what else I can cram into the weekend...
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Easter Weekend

Bella has been at Brent's house since Friday. I miss her! He took her with him so that on Saturday I would be able to drive straight from Charlotte to Fuquay to go wedding dress shopping with my mom and sister at Enchanting Moments. It would have been completely out of my way...especially with my punctuality issues. It ended up working out and I ended up beating my mom and Paige to the shop and arriving on time, precisely at 2pm. So, I started out my MOH duties on a good note. :) She didn't buy her dress because she was in love with two; and, since it was the first day actually trying on dresses. She wants to look at a couple other places before she makes up her mind. She looked absolutely gorgeous in both. They are two completely different styles so I'm sure that makes the decision tough. The second one is a more traditional gown. When the woman put her veil on, I started to lose it. Then, when she tried it on again with the veil, she gave Paige a bouquet. I really lost it and had to leave the room. My sister is getting married!! (& in less than 8 months!)

We were at EM for 3 hours! Paige rode back with me to Briar Creek so we could get some grub. We ate at Red Robin. I do love me a chocolate malt shake, especially with some whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. :) Then, Paige left and I followed Mom to Triangle Town because she'd seen a dress that she thought I'd like at Macy's. I was tired of driving and just plain driving but I know my mother has missed her shopping buddy so I appeased her. The dress turned out to be much cuter than what she was describing and it fit! It's linen, just above the knee. The body is ivory with a chocolate band at the bottom and a scooped collar (it's sleeveless), with brown flowers/green centers with a few green beads sewn into the centers. It was on sale and my mom had a $10 off coupon so it ended up an even better deal! And, the green cardigan I already own (from my last shopping adventure at Ann Taylor Loft) is practically the same color as the green centers. :) I love it when that happens.
After that, we came home & watched The Ten Commandments (or whatever it was) and I passed out on the couch.
Sunday was Easter, of course. I met my folks + Paige & Paul at church. We came back and had a nice lunch and a small Easter egg hunt for Paige and I (the Easter Bunny is definitely getting slack on his clues!). P&P left to go to some CF get-together and I packed up my spring wardrobe and headed back to Charlotte.

I am planning to pick Bella up from Brent's tonight, but he may have to go to a game in Raleigh (they are recruiting a guy from Cardinal Gibbons -ack! ack!) so he wouldn't be home til 8 at the earliest...We'll see. She may have to miss me for one more day................
I told myself this one wasn't going to be another LONG entry..Next time, I'll keep it short! :) Hope everyone had a blessed Easter weekend and a good start to the new week.

BOMB

Working for the government, for a county, has its perks as wells as its risks. In the current economy, an obvious perk is being more insulated from lay offs and production issues as say, the retail-based companies. However, an obvious risk is that people are CRAZY, especially if you get involved with their land and see you infringing on their ownership rights. This blog is about the risks.
Last year, I experienced my first bomb scare here with the county. The building was evacuated and the streets of downtown Concord were closed off. Due to an ordinary brown box outside the front doors to the Governmental Center (my office building). The Bomb Squad was called in, etc., etc. (we evacuated to the county parking lot which is on the west side of the building, so I couldn't see what was going on--but Jeff didn't know what was going on and walked out the front. He got yelled at..."If you can see it, it can kill you!" Infamous now.). Since it was so late in the day, they ended up just letting everyone go on home.
The next incident was the Sun Drop Bottling Co. shooting at the bottom of the hill, where 2 people were killed. This incident involved a manhunt. Our building was on lockdown; the only way to get in or out of departments/offices was with your ID or if someone let you in. Again, my first experience with a lockdown. It was a bit scary..especially when our department gets a lot of public foot traffic. I remember being home and hearing about the manhunt on the Raleigh news...This leads me to today.
Today started out like any other. I arrived at work, got organized and then went down the hall to the restroom. It never fails..by the time I get to work, my bladder wants to explode. So, I push the door open and see a large black container under the sink. Initially, I thought.."Hmm, that's weird. Somone left their music case behind," and closed the stall door. Then I thought, "What if it's..?" Then, "But what if it isn't and I make a big deal out of nothing?" So after I finished my business, I stooped down and checked it out. There was no handle, so I knew it wasn't a music case or a briefcase of any kind. I listened..didn't hear any ticking. Then..I picked it up. It was pretty light, so I tilted it and looked at the bottom where I saw....an opening. It was a trashcan. I assumed it was the liner to the wall, metal trashcan (that they've been trying to deter us from using). Satisfied, I washed my hands and left, not thinking much else of it.
Well, apparently, one of the gals in Finance went to the bathroom and noticed the black box but didn't get as curious as I did. She instead called the Safety & Risk Manager who then ordered the evacuation. We went to the lot where the non-spot paying employees park and waited. I was clueless & thought it was a drill. At least I had enough sense to grab my phone and coat, because it was chilly! Since it was taking awhile, we then walked to the sheriff's building and congregated in the visitation room for..the next 2 1/2 HOURS. The Bomb Squad came, with the K-9 unit. They went in and came out. Then went in with the green, HAZMAT suit on. Then the team went in a 2nd time, to determine there was no threat. Almost 3 hours of nothing...It was horrible. I had told a few co-workers when we were being evacuated that I hoped it wasn't over the trashcan in the bathroom and kind of laughed it off. Turns out, IT WAS. My co-worker talked to someone in Finance who confirmed it was in fact the same "black box" I saw that has spawned this debacle. So, the bomb threat was a false alarm and now we've moved on with our day. ...Except Jeff keeps asking me to take a look at a suspicious package under his desk..his little black trashcan turned upside down; and I heard one of the cleaning ladies is getting some flack for it.
You can take it in a couple of ways...She was suspicious and instead of taking the risk, she went through the proper channels for reporting suspicious package/item..Better safe than sorry. On the other hand, I put two-and-two together, was curious & suspicious but was able to determine there was no threat and no reason to panic anyone.....And, I need to remember whenever we are evacuated to take my purse(!) in case it is not a drill. Sheesh!

New design ideas....

I am all moved into #2035! My parents came down Saturday morning and the 3 of us went back and forth between the old and new for about 10 hours, mostly in the pouring rain. It was awful! One of my guy friends was supposed to come and help (muscle with a truck) but he ended up having to work, so Brent and I switched cars for the weekend. It would've been nice to have the extra help but it ended up working out having his Explorer with the rain...But, mark my words: Next time I move, I am hiring people. I still have some miscellaneous things in his car but don't have the motivation to lift a finger. I moved Saturday, Sunday, Monday and even Tuesday. How does one person (and a dog) accumulate so much stuff?! And particularly someone who routinely cleans, sorts and purges?! It's a mystery.
It's coming together...This weekend, I will finish unpacking boxes and getting the spare closet & storage closet organized. I am getting my hair cut on Saturday...I'm trying to decide if I want to cut it-cut it (lose 3-5 inches) or just go for a trim. I am getting my color redone in a few weeks, so that's something to consider too, I suppose. Plus, there is the wedding to consider..so I won't be pulling a 2nd grade/pre-college doo, that's for sure! ;)

With a new floor plan and more space, there are some things to think about...Where/what to paint, picture arrangements, etc.......A new start!

P.S. Bella seems to love her new house too....now that she can go back to sleeping with me at night helps I'm sure! :)

september.
