FYI: This post could be gross...I'll refrain from detailing the extra juicy bits. ;)
For many years, I've dealt with a cyst behind my ear that comes and goes (with the seasons?!). In the past 6 months or so, it's gone from not being that noticeable to large and in charge. I've been to the doctor who has drained it twice, but it keeps coming back. This weekend, was no exception..except that it is HUGE. I compare it to the pad of my pinky finger and it feels like I have a cherry tomato growing out of my ear. It is quite painful.
For the so-called "snow day" (it's not snow if it doesn't stick), I took a sick day. I got a referral to an ENT in Concord. I was in so much pain that I'd hoped he would take it out right away. No such luck. He said it was ~1.5cm in size and since it was so inflamed and painful, he would have to wait before it could come out. Ugh! But, to look on the bright side, at least he's willing to take it out instead of just draining it.
I have an appointment Friday, January 30th to get this sucker taken out. If you can, say a little prayer that this doctor knows what he is doing and will be able to get the core out, so that it doesn't come back.
**P.S. Last night, while I was watching tv and applying a warm washcloth gently to my ear....it decided to drain on its own. So that's good. At least it's not so large now. ...We'll see.
